SURVIVORS' BENEFITS

This page is designed to act as a reference sheet for multiple sources of information on Survivor's Benefits for Line of Duty Deaths ... locally, state-wide, and nationally.  First, on the LOCAL front, for your information, $1 of your monthly dues goes to support the Baltimore County Professional Fire Fighters Association's Survivor's Beneficiary Fund.  This information is provided in MS Word.  To update your Beneficiary listing with the Local (if you've recently married, divorced, had kids, or had previous beneficiaries die), click here for the form.

  • Baltimore County Insurance Office:  410-887-2568

  • Baltimore County Retirement Office:  410-887-3132

  • Nationwide Retirement Solutions (formerly PEBSCO), Kevin McQuarrie:  410-519-3416

  • American Income Life (provides free $2,000 Life Insurance Policy to ALL UNION MEMBERS):  301-459-6323

  • Union Privileges:  202-293-5330

On the COUNTY level, a generous amount of information is provided in the Survivor's Handbook.  Members of the Baltimore County Fire Department, who during their careers belong to their Survivor's Fund (in MS Word), are entitled to receive this benefit.  The member's beneficiary will receive a check for the amount equal to $1.00 per member of the Department.  For information call 410-887-4511.  (Revised August 22, 2001).

If the death is deemed Line of Duty, your spouse will receive 100% of your salary plus COLA's until he/she remarries.

The STATE provides a death benefit of $50,000 to anyone who is killed or dies in the performance of his/her duties. More information is provided via the County's FD web page.

On the FEDERAL level, the Bureau of Justice Assistance Fact Sheet provides information on the history, benefits, and effective dates.

You can also find more information on this level of LODD benefits via the IAFF's web site.  To review the IAFF's policies on Line of Duty Death Notification, Assistance and Investigation, click here.

If you have any more questions, please feel free to contact your Union Office.
