The Baltimore County Fire Fighters & Paramedics Victims' Assistance & Education Fund (501(c)3)

Providing Free Assistance and Education to County Residents
"We're There Because We Care"

Fire Fighters and Paramedics who work for the Baltimore County Fire Department are committed to serving the citizens of Baltimore County and the State of Maryland.  These dedicated men and women not only do their jobs in a professional and caring manner, but also provide many other valuable services to the same citizens while off duty.

The BCFFPVAEF was formed in 1997 to provide many services to the citizens who live, work, go to school, or simply travel through Baltimore County.  Here is a synopsis of what we offer:

FREE SMOKE DETECTORS

Members of our Department recognize that even simply battery-operated smoke detectors do in fact save lives, and we have witnessed the benefit firsthand.  When a call comes in to our office or to any Baltimore County Fire Station, our Fire Fighters and Paramedics deliver and even install the detectors on their own time with no expense to the citizens.  Our Victims Assistance Committee members (see below) keep smoke detectors with them at all times to be able to respond quickly to your need for smoke detectors.   (top)

FUNDING FOR VICTIMS ASSISTANCE COMMITTEE

This group of Fire Fighters and Paramedics respond while off-duty whenever there is a residential fire and someone has suffered a loss of property or the use of their home.  We assist with making arrangements for their immediate shelter, and may even provide housing on a temporary basis.  We distribute certificates redeemable for food from area grocery stores, for replacement clothing and household items lost in the fire, and for toys for the children.  Responding to over 200 calls a year in order to provide this service keeps our committee members very busy.   (top)

FUNDING FOR AFTER-THE-FIRE WALKS

Our members canvas the immediate neighborhood that has been affected by a tragic domestic fire.  Our goal is to educate the citizens as to the cause of the fire and to distribute fire prevention materials.  Our pamphlets explain the importance of smoke detectors and the need for exit drills to be able to escape in the event of a fire.  At the same time we offer to inspect their smoke detectors to ensure proper working condition, and install batteries or even replace the smoke detector if needed.  Again, this is done by our members on their off-duty time.   (top)

PRINTING & DISTRIBUTING PUBLIC FIRE SAFETY EDUCATION MATERIALS

These materials include brochures which teach how and when to test detectors and/or change batteries, and where to install smoke detectors throughout the home.  We publish informative brochures designed for the elderly to explain what the Paramedics do when they are called to an emergency situation.  These brochures include a form for residents to fill out to describe medical history and needs (the form is to be kept in an easily visible location).  We also produce and print brochures describing EDITH (Exit Drills In The Home) which we distribute to school-age children.  We also provide a fire safety video and study materials to all schools in Baltimore County.   (top)

FUNDING FOR THE ANNUAL FIRE PREVENTION POSTER CONTEST

Our members were the first to start this popular contest in the Baltimore County schools during Fire Prevention Week each year.  We provide funding for advertisements and awards that are given out during this very successful program, and the children look forward to the event each year.   (top)

PRINTING OF THE FIRE PREVENTION COLORING BOOK
These booklets are widely distributed to all schools, and are also given out at public events.  They feature safety tips and advice for parents as well as pictures for kids to color, constantly reinforcing the issue of fire prevention in the home.   (top)

EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
The Fund helps to educate our members in the latest methods of safety, not only for their personal protection while on the job, but also to help educate anyone who comes in contact with a Fire Fighter or Paramedic either on a call or at a public event.  Through education, seminars, and specialized classes and training, we help ensure that all of our Fire Fighters and Paramedics are trained in the latest methods of protecting the citizens whom we serve.   (top)

MAKE A TAX DEDUCTIBLE CONTRIBUTION!
All of these services and more are provided through this community- and service-oriented fund.  We receive no funding from the Baltimore County Fire Department, and thus rely solely on private donations.  The fund is tax exempt, and qualifies as a tax-deductible donation.  We greatly appreciate any contributions to this program.  Perhaps you may wish to honor a birthday, an anniversary, or even a friend's or loved one's memory by making a donation to:  Baltimore County Fire Fighters & Paramedics Victims' Assistance & Education Fund, 52 Scott Adam Road, Cockeysville, MD  21030-3282.  Please feel free to call us directly at 410-683-1311 for more information.  (top)
